Govt will not surrender to terrorism: PM
ISLAMABAD: The government will never give in to terrorism, Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani said on Monday. Chairing a meeting to review law and order, he said it was a positive move on the part of tribesmen to join the security forces to expel the Taliban from the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA). The meeting discussed the security situation in Islamabad after the Marriott hotel suicide attack. It also appreciated the progress of a crisis management committee, which was set up by the premier after the hotel attack. Interior Secretary Syed Kamal Shah briefed the meeting about deficiencies in the country’s security apparatus, and recommended various strategies to overcome them and combat terrorism. The meeting also decide to form a committee headed by Information Minister Sherry Rehman to submit a draft on the national counterterrorism policy within a fortnight. The committee will also include Interior Adviser Rehman Malik, Law Minister Farooq Naik and Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi. Sherry told reporters after the meeting that the government would evolve a counterterrorism strategy under its three-pronged policy of using development, dialogue and deterrence to eliminate terrorism. app
